Katie Donovan was born in 1962 and studied at Trinity College Dublin and at the University of California at Berkeley. She now lives in Dublin where she works as a journalist. This poem is from her first collection Watermelon Man (Bloodaxe, pounds 5.95). Katie Donovan will be appearing at The Hay Festival tomorrow Saturday 28 May (Box Office: 0497 821299).
