Visions of Camden Town

Charles Madge was born in Johannesburg in 1912, and was educated at Cambridge and became Professor of Social Science at Birmingham University in 1950. He published his first collection of poetry, The Disappearing Castle, in 1937. This poem is from Of Love Time and Places; Selected Poems (Anvil, pounds 18.95) published just over 50 years after his second collection The Father Found (Faber, 1941). All this week the Daily Poem will feature the theme of London.
