Roland Robinson was born in Co Clare and brought to Australia in 1921 when he was nine years old. During his life he published eight volumes of verse and he collected and published five volumes of Aboriginal myths and legends, as well as short stories and three volumes of autobiography. This poem appears in Fivefathers, an anthology edited by Les Murray and published by Carcanet at pounds 9.95. This is the penultimate poem on the theme of birds.
