Sujata Bhatt was born in Ahmedabad, India, in 1956. She studied in the US and now lives in Germany. She will be reading at the Purcell Room, South Bank Centre, London, at 7.30pm on 13 November as part of Out of the Margins, a celebration of African, South Asian and Caribbean writers writing in English. This poem is taken from Brunizem (Carcanet, pounds 5.95).
