James Keery was born in Coleraine, Co Londonderry, in 1958 and read English at Cambridge. He now lives in Culcheth in Cheshire and teaches English in Tyldesley. This poem is from a forthcoming anthology New Poetries (Carcanet), due out in May, price pounds 8.95.
