Michael Hofmann was born in 1957 in Freiburg, Germany, and came to England in 1961. He has published two previous books of poems; Nights in the Iron Hotel (Faber, 1983) and Acrimony (Faber, 1986), as well as translating a number of works from the German. This poem is from his collection Corona Corona (Faber). Michael Hofmann will be reading at the Hay Festival on Sunday 22 May at 10am.
