Stephen Smith was born in 1964 in Worcestershire, and later moved to Aberystwyth, where he graduated in English from the University College of Wales. In 1991 he won the Eric Gregory Award for his poetry. This poem appears in his first collection The Fabulous Relatives, soon to be published by Bloodaxe.
