Gerald Dawe was born in Belfast in 1952, and now lives in County Dublin. Count originally appeared in Sheltering Places & Company (first published in 1978 by Blackstaff, now reissued by Rudyard Press). His most recent publication is Sunday School (Gallery Press). This poem appears in A Rage for Order, an anthology published by Blackstaff at pounds 12.95.
