E J Scovell was born in 1907. She has published seven books, including The Space Between and Collected Poems. She published her first collection, Shadows of Chrysanthemums, in 1944. This poem appears in Selected Poems published by Carcanet. E J Scovell will be appearing at Poetry International on 29 October in the Purcell Room (The South Bank), London, at 7.30pm along with fellow poets Sorley MacLean, Paul Muldoon and Marin Sorescu.
