Louise Gluck was born in New York City; she attended Sarah Lawrence College and Columbia University, and later joined the faculty at Warren Wilson College. This is the second section from The Garden which appears in the anthology The Faber Book of Contemporary American Poetry, edited by Helen Vendler price pounds 5.99. This is the first of a series of poems on the theme of gardens.
