Robert Crawford was born near Glasgow in 1959. He lectures at St Andrews University and is the co-editor of Verse magazine. His work first appeared in New Chatto Poets 2 in 1989. His recent collection Talkies was published by Chatto & Windus in 1992. Robert Crawford is included in the New Generation promotion and will be reading with two other New Generation poets, Moniza Alvi and Glyn Maxwell at Middlesbrough Town Hall, Corporation Street, Middlesbrough at 8pm on 14 May (0642 812288). This poem appears in the current issue of Poetry Review (pounds 4.95).
