Josef Hanzlik was born in 1938 and is one of the leading middle-generation Czech poets. He has published 10 books of poems, as well as translations from Russian, Serbo-Croat and English. Until its suspension in 1969 he was poetry editor of Plamen, the literary monthly of the Czech Writers' Union. This poem appears in Selected Poems published by Bloodaxe at pounds 8.95.
