Fleur Adcock was born in 1934 in Papakura, New Zealand. She read Classics at Victoria, Wellington, and emigrated to Britain in 1963. She is a freelance writer and translator and lives in London. Her past collections include Selected Poems, The Incident Book and Time-Zones all published by OUP. This poem originally appeared in Selected Poems (OUP) and now appears in Sixty Women Poets, an anthology edited by Linda France and published by Bloodaxe at pounds 8.95. Reprinted with permission from Oxford University Press.
