Mervyn Morris was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1937. Since 1966 he has worked at the University of the West Indies where he is now a Reader in West Indian Literature. His many collections include The Pond (1973), Shadowboxing (1979), Examination Centre (1993). This poem appears in On Holy Week published by Dangaroo Press at pounds 4.95.
