A M Budzisz has been writing poetry since the age of 10. She has a Catholic mother and a Muslim father; many of her poems deal with a clash of religions. She has published two books of poetry; this poem first appeared among the collection The Imam's Friday Sermon and other poems (Janus, pounds 9.75). It is one of 67 poems chosen from over 140 collections and 120 individual poems to form The Forward Book of Poetry 1995 to be published on 6 October, the same day as the announcement of The Forward Poetry Prizes.
