Stewart Conn was born in 1936 in Glasgow, and grew up in Ayreshire. His most recent collection is The Luncheon of the Boating Party (Bloodaxe, 1992). This poem first appeared in his collection In the Kibble Palace: New & Selected Poems (Bloodaxe, 1987) and now appears in Poetry With An Edge an anthology edited by Neil Astley and published by Bloodaxe at pounds 8.95.
