Raymond Tong was engaged in African education in Nigeria and Uganda from 1950 to 1961. He has since worked for the British Council in England, South America, India and the Middle East. His previous collection Crossing the Border was published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1978. This poem appears in Selected Poems published by Hale at pounds 10.95.
