A trombone played in the London premiere of Wagner's Ring cycle was among more than 300 historic instruments which found a home at the Horniman Museum in south-east London yesterday.
The collection of wind and brass instruments, made by the company Boosey and Hawkes and formerly housed at the company's factory, was bought for more than £230,000. The museum has one of the largest collections of musical instruments in Britain. The new additions date from the 18th century to the 1960s and are supplemented by examples by other English and continental instrument makers showing innovations in design.
