It became a symbol of Britian during the "swinging sixities". As British as roast beef and the Queen, it was often daubed in the Union Flag.

But the Mini was not actually born in Britain. The car, which celebrates its 50th birthday today, was designed by an immigrant - one of many to help build Britain.
