The hunt for a five-year-old London boy appeared to end in tragedy when police divers recovered the body of a child from a river near his home.

Andrea Auriglietti was playing with his pet whippet on Sunday evening when the dog bolted from the back garden. Police found the dog a short while later but the boy went missing after chasing it over the fence.

A police spokeswoman said divers pulled a boy's body from the River Lea in north London. But he has not yet been identified.
