Two Britons share £90m lottery jackpot
Two British ticket-holders have claimed a share of Friday's £90m EuroMillions jackpot prize.
Camelot said last night that it still had to verify the claims for £45,570,835.50, which are expected to confirmed this morning. If one person, rather than a syndicate, owns either ticket they will become the UK's biggest ever individual winner and instantly join a similar wealth bracket to stars including the DJ Chris Evans, the chef Jamie Oliver and the actor Sir Michael Caine.
Until now, the record single win in Britain was by a former Royal Mail worker, Angela Kelly, from East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, who scooped £35.4m on the EuroMillions draw in August 2007.
Nine European countries participate in the EuroMillions lottery – Britain, the Irish Republic, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg. Even if both tickets belong to individuals they will still receive less than half that won by Europe's biggest single winner, a Spanish woman who collected £126m in May.
