Volvo to recall 10,000 cars

Volvo is recalling almost 10,000 cars in Britain worth around £200m because of a problem with the steering, the company said.

The firm is recalling three models - S60, S80 and V70 - all of which were built in Sweden in the past year. Peter Ganjbar, a company spokesman, said that the problem, which involves ball joints in the steering system, has not caused any accidents but could affect the car's handling. Driving the models is not dangerous, the company said, and they will be fixed at Volvo dealerships. Anyone with an affected car will be contacted by letter and asked to bring their car to their nearest dealership.

Volvo said that 105,000 cars worldwide, including the 9,715 in Britain, were being recalled. A total of 30,000 were being recalled in the US, 17,000 in Sweden and 9,000 in Germany.
