MICHAEL Portillo, Secretary of State for Employment, was accused by John Edmonds of the GMB general union of seeking closure of the Remploy factories which provide employment for the disabled, making 8,600 employees redundant. But Phillip Oppenheim, employment minister, said civil servants would work with the organisation to protect jobs.
