Ticket rise
British Rail is to end cheap day return tickets on Network SouthEast local trains in the morning rush hourfrom 28 September. They will only be available after 9.30am.
Michael Howard, Secretary of State for the Environment, paid a pounds 10 fine for travelling on a train without a ticket. He was going from Folkestone to Ashford, Kent, when two inspectors found him in a first-class carriage without a pounds 4.50 ticket.
