Tougher action against juveniles

Michael Howard, the Home Secretary, tabled an amendment to the Criminal Justice and Public Order Bill to allow courts to send juveniles on remand to secure accommodation from as young as 12, instead of 15.

'The public needs to be protected from juveniles charged with serious offences or who abscond time and again while on remand,' Mr Howard said.
