A former senior Wren who was forced to leave the Royal Navy when she became pregnant has been awarded pounds 134,000 compensation. An industrial tribunal ruled that Patricia Prior, 43, of Gosport, Hampshire, suffered sexual discrimination when she was discharged from the Navy in 1983. Her settlement may eventually reach pounds 200,000.
The Ministry of Defence said the award was 'exceptional' because of Mrs Prior's circumstances and long service. She had signed up for the maximum 22 years and served more than 15.
