Tube strike 2014: How far could you have flown during your commute?

Tube strikes clogged the capital this week, leaving Londoners doing the awkward jog-walk to their desks at the end of a commute of biblical brutality.

With the Circle Line pretty much non-existent and other lines spitting commuters out at random stations on a whim, the journey into work saw lengthy detours for millions, many of whom faced fresh hell as they headed over ground to wait for a bus in the cold.

As trade union leader Bob Crow heads on holiday to construct sand castles out of gold bullion and perfect his plan to kidnap all of the city's puppies and hold them ransom in aid of increasing Tube workers' tea breaks, the strikes look set to continue for the rest of the week and resurface in the next.

This leads us to the sadistic question, how far could I have flown (in the fastest possible plane not subject to low cost airline flight delays) in the time it has taken me to extract myself from Earl's Court station? Let's find out...
