POST OFFICE managers do not share the enthusiasm of their chairman and chief executive for the Government's privatisation plans, according to a survey published yesterday, writes Martin Whitfield.
Nearly two-thirds of those polled by Mori on behalf of the Communications Managers Association opposed the proposal to sell off 51 per cent of Parcelforce and Royal Mail. Only 15 per cent believed it would improve service to customers, while 48 per cent said it would make them worse. The preferred option among the 350 managers polled is for the Post Office to be given greater commercial freedom within the public sector.
Sir Peter Emery, Tory MP for Hontion, Devon, has joined opponents of the Post Office Green Paper.
