Two-thirds of GPs want to quit, survey finds

MORE THAN two-thirds of GPs and one in three hospital doctors want to quit medicine since changes were introduced into the National Health Service, according to a survey of more than 5,400 medics, writes Liz Hunt.

Three per cent of GPs who took part in the survey, published in the current issues of Hospital Doctor and Doctor magazines, said they had thought about suicide because the stress of their work was now so great. Almost half of hospital doctors are suffering from some degree of depression related to new working practices. Job satisfaction among hospital doctors has also fallen, from 87 per cent to 48 per cent, since the changes.
