A diocesan court has ended a dispute at St Mary's Church in Cottingham, Humberside, by ruling that a 4ft 6in statue of the Virgin Mary should be removed on the grounds of artistic merit. Some parishioners had argued it was an unwelcome Catholic influence in an Anglican church, others said it was ugly.
