A TEACHER whose voice was damaged by shouting to make herself heard in classes in an open- plan school has won a claim for industrial injury benefit.

Frances Oldfield, 55, had to take early retirement from her job as deputy head of Blacklow Primary School, Huyton, Merseyside, this year when her voice was reduced to a whisper.

At a Liverpool tribunal yesterday, officials agreed her voice loss was an industrial injury. Peter Brierley, her solicitor, said: 'This will open the floodgates.'
