Unison outrage at voucher wages

A union leader yesterday called for an inquiry into an old people's home which is part-paying staff in shopping vouchers instead of money.

Bosses at Alexandra House in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, said the vast majority of workers were happy with the arrangement.

But John Toomey, Unison's regional officer for East Anglia, said the arrangement was "outrageous" and a practice that belonged in history.
