Achurch roof collapsed when a tornado struck it during a Palm Sunday service, killing 17 people and injuring at least 90, AP reports from Piedmont, Alabama.

About 140 people were in Goshen Methodist church, five miles north of Piedmont, when a string of tornadoes moved through the area. Officials feared that some might be buried. Rescuers dug for survivors by hand, then called in cranes to lift the roof.
