A former revolutionary began a nearly 20-year jail sentence for the 1972 assassination of Milan's police chief, Luigi Calabresi.

Adriano Sofri was jailed after Italy's highest appeals court rejected attempts to overturn the conviction of Sofri and two other men. The three men have insisted they had no role in the shooting of Calabresi. AP - Pisa
