5,500 civilians still missing from Srebrenica

New York - More than four months after the so-called "safe area" of Srebrenica in western Bosnia was overrun by Bosnian Serb forces, there may be as many as 5,500 civilians still missing from the town, the United Nations said yesterday.

The estimate came in a report by the UN Secretary-General, Boutros Boutros- Ghali, to the Security Council cataloguing accounts, garnered since the town's fall, of mass executions and other atrocities allegedly committed by forces under the command of the Serb military leader, Ratko Mladic.
