At least five US soldiers were killed in Somalia yesterday when two American helicopters were shot down, the Pentagon said, Reuter reports from Washington.
Fighting between US and Somali forces broke out near the headquarters of warlord General Mohamed Farah Aideed in Mogadishu after a Somali worker was killed and three US servicemen were injured by a bomb. In a separate incident, a Belgian soldier serving with the UN peace-keeping forces was shot dead about 20km north of the southern port of Kismayu.
