ABUJA - The detained Nigerian opposition leader Moshood Abiola was charged with treason at a federal high court in the capital, Abuja. 'They put him up on a three-count charge of treason and he pleaded not guilty,' a journalist said from the court room. Mr Abiola, the wealthy businessman widely believed to have won last year's annulled presidential vote, was arrested last month after he proclaimed himself president in defiance of the military rulers. He was brought to the court in a police van. Reuter
