Moshood Abiola, the politician who declared himself president of Nigeria, challenged his arrest in a suit filed at the federal High Court, Reuter reports from Lagos.
Mr Abiola asked the court to declare his arrest on Thursday and subsequent detention a violation of his human and political rights. Police fired tear-gas to break up a march by 1,000 market women in Lagos's business district in protest at Mr Abiola's arrest.
