A Kenyan Muslim cleric accused by the US of supporting militants in Somalia with links to al-Qa'ida has been charged with inciting last week's violent protests in Mombasa.
Abubaker Sharif allegedly urged protesters to burn down churches and kill police officers in Kenya's second-biggest city during riots that killed five people, including three police.
Mr Sharif turned himself in at a court in Mombasa yesterday. He said his life was in danger after the rioting.
