Former President Laurent Gbagbo, who almost sparked civil war as he attempted to cling on to power, was on his way to the Hague last night after the International Criminal Court issued a warrant for his arrest.
During the four-month stand-off following his election defeat, Mr Gbagbo's forces are accused of systematically killing opponents, shelling residential areas, and using tanks to fire on unarmed women.
He has been under house arrest. His spokesman, Kone Katinan, confirmed: "He's in the plane."
