Efforts to bring to trial the alleged killers of honeymooner Anni Dewani have hit a new setback after a Cape Town judge agreed that a neuro-psychologist needed to examine one of the men before proceedings could begin.

The trial of Xolile Mngeni, who has a malignant brain tumour, and Mziwamadoda Qwabe was to start today in the Western Cape High Court. Tomorrow, Westminster magistrates' court will resume proceedings to decide whether Shrien Dewani, who is accused of hiring the hitmen to kill his wife, is mentally fit to be extradited to South Africa. Swedish national Anni Dewani, 28, was shot in Cape Town in November 2010. A taxi driver, Zola Tongo, was jailed for 18 years.

Mr Dewani, 32, from Bristol, denies involvement. He is being treated for severe post-traumatic stress disorder and depression.Qwabe, 27, and Mngeni, 24, face charges of kidnapping, robbery, murder, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
