Julius Malema, the Youth League leader, will appeal against his expulsion from the ruling African National Congress, saying he is being persecuted for his calls to nationalise mines and seize white-owned farmland.
The ANC expelled Mr Malema, 30, last week, for sowing division and bringing it into disrepute.
But the ANC Youth League said yesterday it would "never agree that its leadership be subjected to unfair and unjust treatment or banished for narrow political purposes."
