Police in Morocco arrested three people last night for a café bombing in the tourist city of Marrakech on 28 April that killed 16 people, and said that the chief suspect showed "loyalty" to al-Qa'ida.

The three suspects were all Moroccans, the official news agency quoted the Interior Ministry as saying. Most of the victims were foreign tourists, including eight French people.

The ministry said the chief suspect was "well-versed in jihadi ideology". It said the suspect had tried to fight alongside Islamist militants in Chechnya.
