Mubarak's trial to proceed

Ap

The trial of Hosni Mubarak will go ahead in Cairo, a top judicial official said yesterday after the Health Minister declared the former Egyptian president well enough to travel to the capital from the Sinai region.

Reports that the 83-year-old Mr Mubarak's health was faltering had raised speculation that his trial, due to start on Wednesday, could be postponed or held in Sharm el Sheikh, where he has been receiving treatment. Mr Mubarak is to be tried on charges of corruption and ordering the killing of protesters during the uprising that toppled him on 11 February. Going on trial with him are his sons, Gamal and Alaa, and the former interior minister Habib el-Adly.
