Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the new Somali President, and the visiting Kenyan Foreign Minister escaped an apparent suicide bomb attack yesterday on a Mogadishu hotel where they were holding a news conference. At least eight people were killed.
Somalia's al-Shabaab rebels, who are part of al-Qa'ida, said they had carried out the attack. It came two days after Mr Mohamud was elected in the country's first presidential vote in decades.
