At least 10 people have been killed in clashes between Arab nomads, militia fighters and police in Sudan's Abyei region.
Both North and South Sudan claim the oil-producing border area, one of the most likely sources of conflict as southern Sudan gains independence in July.
Fighting between Misseriya nomads linked to the North and the South-linked Dinka Ngok people marred an independence referendum in January. Abyei's chief administrator said a group of Misseriya attacked the settlement of Todach on Sunday with fighting continuing yesterday.
