The Ugandan military says it has killed a rebel fighter and captured another in its campaign against Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army rebels in the Central African Republic.
Ugandan army spokesman Col. Felix Kulayigye said Wednesday that Ugandan forces killed the rebel while hunting down Dominic Ongwen, a rebel general who answers directly to the elusive rebel leader Kony. Both men are wanted by the International Criminal Court.
Kulayigye said that Ugandan forces had instructions to "capture Dominic alive or dead." The rebel commander escaped unhurt in the raid on his camp Tuesday, he said.
The LRA continues to wreak havoc in the Central African Republic and the Congo. Last year the US sent 100 special forces to help regional armies eliminate the LRA.
