London - US defence chiefs are considering using giant airships up to a quarter-of-a-mile (450m) long to transport troops and tanks to trouble spots, Jane's Defence Weekly reports. The magazine said companies that have discussed airship designs with the Defense Department and the Joint Chiefs of Staff include Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, best known for its secret work on reconnaissance and Stealth aircraft.
