ALGIERS (Reuter) - Algeria yesterday declared an indefinite overnight curfew to crush Muslim extremists. The Interior Ministry said from Saturday pedestrians and vehicles would be banned from the streets between 11.30pm and 5am in seven northern and central areas of the country, including the capital.
A two-month amnesty for 'terrorists' expires tomorrow night. The Prime Minister, Belaid Abdesselam, last weekend declared 'total war' against fundamentalists who have killed more than 170 members of the security forces since February.
