Algeria's Prime Minister, Redha Malek, who has presided over the bloodiest months of the country's Muslim insurgency, resigned yesterday, AP reports from Algiers.
President Liamine Zeroual named Mokdad Sifi, Minister of Equipment, to form a new government. No reason was given for Mr Malek's resignation, which comes two days after Algeria accepted an IMF aid plan on the condition it moves towards a market economy.
